Backpacks & Snax

Trail safety

Last updated 2 October 2026

Everything we share, on this site, on Instagram and in our maps and guides, is a report of a trip we took. It is not professional guiding, medical, legal or safety advice.

Conditions change

Trails wash out, roads close, tides turn, permits and park rules change, and weather does what it wants. A route that worked for us on the date we hiked it may not work for you on yours. Check the land manager (for example the park's own website or ranger station) for current conditions, closures and permit rules before you go.

Know your limits

Scrambles, backcountry routes and long remote drives carry real risk, including serious injury. Only attempt what matches your own experience, fitness and gear. Tell someone your plan, carry the essentials, and turn around when it stops feeling right.

Your trip, your call

By using our routes, maps, gear notes or guides, you accept responsibility for your own safety and decisions. Ben and Amy, and Backpacks & Snax, are not responsible for injury, loss or damage that comes from following them.

Gear and links

Gear notes are our honest opinion from our own use. When a post includes an affiliate link, free product or paid partnership, we say so in that post.
